Research Experiences

For Akántaros, the question of material diversity shapes each framework and calls us—whether individually or collectively—to explore the many facets of the world.

From birth, we investigate, scrutinizing the universe until we place our desire upon a particular element, substance, or point—one that becomes our precious stone. In childhood, we are natural researchers. Everything sparks curiosity and wonder. As we move through the world, we are drawn to certain aspects of those precious stones that appear along our path.

We view research as a deepening of reading and listening—a meticulous carving of each project, questioning, probing, and understanding both the intra-textual and extra-textual through a transdisciplinary approach. In this process, narrative spaces are redefined, disrupted, unraveled, and then reconnected through reflective inquiry and discernment.

We engage in both social and artistic research, constantly intertwining theory with practice. This movement between the two is guided by ethical and aesthetic principles. We aim to nurture, sustain, and strengthen the foundation of community exchanges.

Additionally, we recognize that artistic research, in its bodily, expressive, and aesthetic dimensions, holds great potential when integrated with social research’s reflective and critical perspectives. We seek to challenge rigid divisions between art and science, understanding art as a medium for knowledge creation and social sciences as embodied, situated experiences. Here, subjectivity is not dismissed but embraced—as feminism teaches us, it is political.

At Akántaros, we propose research in a state of alertness.
